“ Mary Mac's is an Atlanta institution serving up delicious, reasonably priced soul food staples. The service was exceptionally friendly. Drinks never went unfilled and we were constantly checked on - southern hospitality at its best. The inside of the restaurant is from a bygone era of decades past. While I wouldn't classify the food as gourmet, it's certainly stick-to-your-ribs tasty. There were some real highlights: the fried green tomatoes, the deviled eggs, the tomato pie, and the collards. The only real miss was the broccoli soufflé. No one at table really cared for it. We were too full dessert this time round, but I can attest they are delicious. Leave room! ”
“ A must every time I'm in Atlanta! All the flavors of a meat plus 2/ plus 3 with the class of white linens! Mary Macs has been serving Southern hospitality, amazing food, and the best sweet tea for 80 years! Fried Chicken, Pot Likker, Cornbread Stuffing, Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Okra, and Peanut Butter Custard Pie...oh my! I never know how to answer the question of what would be my last meal... but I'm pretty sure it's on this menu! ”
“ I have been in the area for several years but I had yet to try Mary Mac's Tea Room. I was part of a small party of 9 celebrating a very special occasion. We were seated immediately in a small room with the bar in it. There was a party of 8 at the other table and a baby grand shoved in the corner. We wrote our order down on individual forms provided at our place setting. The bartender doubled as our waiter... he came with the room! We had a good time and there were no complaints about the food. Our group ordered a sundry of entrees and sides and it was fun to see all the variety come out of the kitchen. We were given a basket of corn bread and a basket of yeast rolls- not worth the calorie consumption. My meal was good- fried chicken wings, steamed cabbage and Mac and cheese. The menu indicated that there would be 6 of them and I was a little concerned about the quantity of leftovers I would have. Spoiler alert, they were quite small and not even a crumb left of them. The cabbage was good and the Mac and cheese was stellar. The service was a little gruff and unimpressive. We were a well behaved celebrating a health milestone and no one from the restaurant cared to check in or acknowledge the event. We had giant balloons calling attention to the table but that was ignored. The other table that was seated in the same room did offer congratulations to honored, though. There's a large lot behind the restaurant with no cost parking. And, while it was a little steep to navigate, it was convenient and well let. It have been once and unless I am entertaining guests with a desire to go there, I am good. ”
“ Iconic Atlanta establishment. Come over for some great Southern favorites. The fried shrimp was the best IMO but the chicken fried steak was tasty. I loved the fried green tomatoes and fried okra as sides. ”
“ Service was excellent, so sweet and there was no wait on a Saturday yet it was busy. Loved the convenient parking lot. Yeast rolls were delicious. Everyone enjoyed their food and can see why this place is so popular. Is it the best fried chicken and sides? Maybe not, but the price was fair and it was some good southern food--perfect for a quick lunch and happy to have tried it after hearing about it for so many years. ”
“ came here with my family for the first time. We're from Seattle and were looking for some good Southern eats. With all the hype and tons of reviews we had to try this place out. There's a parking lot at the back of the restaurant so parking was fine for us. We were concerned about getting seated quickly and called the restaurant but no one answered the day before Thanksgiving. We thought it would be packed but to our surprise we were seated right away for a table of 4! The menu clearly says you can't share entrees. Our waiter was nice enough to let us share if we ordered appetizers. We got the fried green tomatos, house salad, shrimp and Grits and of course fried chicken. We had plenty of food with the sides we ordered: beans, collard greens, mashed potato, fries. Our bill was $70 and some change including the tip which is pretty good for 4 ppl! The fried chicken wasn't overly greasy and pretty juicy. I wouldn't say it's the best fried chicken I ever had but it was decent! We regret not trying the peach cobbler but we were in a hurry. Would come back again to try the cobbler and chicken dumplings! ”
“ First time here, famous place with a lot of history! Food overall is pretty good. We ordered the chicken fried chicken with an assortment of sides (fried okra, whipped potatoes, Mac n cheese, green beans) and got the hush puppies as an appetizer. It seems like all food comes with a bread basket of yeast rolls and cornbread, which are DELICIOUS!! It was probably the best thing here, the bread was SO GOOD! The yeast rolls are the softest I have ever had and pretty rich in flavor, and the cornbread is nice and sweet and slightly moist. The bread here was so so good! The chicken fried chicken itself was crunchy and flavorful, also pretty good but not particularly amazing. The sides were pretty standard, good again but not amazing. I heard from my friends the fried okra was really good however! The hush puppies came out hot and crunchy, being soft on the inside and came with a dip. The interior is like an older vintage style, with the history of the restaurant and photos all inside. Definitely some place to try at least once. Service was awesome! Everyone was friendly and prompt! ”
“ Must visit!! I called ahead to verify that they were open as many businesses were closed the last day of Hurricane Helene. The lady who answered the phone replied they "were waiting for me to get down there as everyone was bored and wanting to talk to me." She told me to put my shoes on and drive safe. Now what better invitation could I get than that. This is probably my fourth or fifth time coming to Mary Mac's. No visit to Atlanta is complete without an outing here for some delicious southern food. I was seated in the Ponce Room to the left of the main entrance. The walls of every room are lined with newspaper articles featuring the restaurant as well as pictures of famous people who have eaten at Mary Mac's. I had the pleasure of being helped by my waitress Kam. She was extremely sweet and kind. Very personable. Couldn't have asked for a better or nicer person. She asked for my name which is unusual in California but is probably normal in the south. I loved that she used my name throughout the evening. I started the with the cocktail - Mary Mac's Peach Mojito. It is strong! The Bacardi was a good complement to the peach nectar which got stuck in the straw so you will probably need a larger one. For my second cocktail, I went with the Georgia Peach Martini. Holy moly it is fire. It is sweet and a little too sugary but has lots of booze. Beware for those who are faint of heart. For dinner, I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with broccoli soufflé and macaroni and cheese. The portion of the chicken is huge. The chicken is moist and the coating is crispy. It is served with a great white pepper gravy. As a lover of broccoli, I had to get the broccoli soufflé and it is fantastic. I think it has a bread crumb topping. The macaroni and cheese was fine but I was underwhelmed. For dessert, I went with the peach cobbler is bordering on hot so be careful. If you are not careful, you will burn your mouth. Blow on it. It was essentially apple pie but with peaches. It has large slices of peaches with cut outs of pie crust. It was okay. I expected more. Fantastic music playing in the back - R&B and Soul - Earth, Wind & Fire, One Way, Rick James, Luther Vandross, Donna Summer. I wanted to get up and start a dance party in the middle of the restaurant. If you are in Atlanta, you have to come here. Be ready for a great meal and time! ”
